Rising content creator Mokaya was recently interviewed by Dr. Ofweneke where he shared an intimate glimpse into his life, creative beginnings, and future aspirations.

The conversation kicked off with Dr. Ofweneke inquiring about Mokaya’s educational background. Hailing from Kisii, Mokaya revealed he is currently a student at Kenyatta University, pursuing a degree in teaching English and literature.

“I initially applied for teaching and journalism, but I ended up with teaching,” he explained with a chuckle, reflecting on his academic path.

Mokaya then delved into his entry into content creation, which began last year with short skits. “I think I was born for this,” he said confidently.

He credited his parents for embracing his talent, noting their support has been instrumental. “I even recently shot a video with my mother, and they’ve fully accepted my gift,” he added, highlighting the familial encouragement behind his craft.

The discussion shifted to his collaborations within the industry, with Dr. Ofweneke asking who Mokaya enjoys working with most.

“Mjaka Mfine stands out,” he replied, referring to the fellow content creator. “We have great chemistry, and she’s an amazing workmate—don’t get me wrong!” he quipped, injecting humour into his praise.

Looking ahead, Mokaya expressed admiration for veteran comedian DJ Shiti, his long-time role model.

“I used to imitate his speech growing up, and he’s still my biggest inspiration. We’ve talked about collaborating, and I’m confident it will happen soon,” he assured, his enthusiasm palpable.

Venturing into new territory, Mokaya shared his plans to explore stand-up comedy. “Growing up, that was my dream, but I started with skits since they worked. Eventually, I’ll dive into stand-up,” he said, showcasing his versatility and ambition.

His recent work also touched on regional dynamics, particularly a skit with Eric Omondi addressing the Tanzania-Kenya social media feud.

When asked how he felt about fans preferring his skit over Omondi’s, Mokaya admitted, “I didn’t even know about the tension between the countries until a week later. While shooting, I just knew it would resonate, and rewatching it, I felt proud.”
