In a captivating conversation with Oga Obinna, renowned Kenyan content creator Collins Kuria, widely recognized as Collo Blue, shared transformative stories about his life and career.

Born in Kiambu and raised in Mwihoko, Collo began his dancing journey in 2016, right after completing Form 4, drawing inspiration from a church dance crew named UDC.

He recounted how working with individuals more skilled than him significantly inspired his early development.

Artistic Growth and Key Collaborations

Collo Blue's artistic path led him to Kenyatta University, where he continued to hone his craft, even dancing alongside Willy Paul's dancer, who played a crucial role in shaping his skills after the UDC crew disbanded.

The "King of TikTok Challenges" and Industry Insights

Despite being widely addressed as the "King of TikTok Challenges," Collo Blue humbly dismissed such titles, emphasizing his sole focus on passion for his craft.

He has earned widespread acclaim for creating vibrant dance challenges for hit songs like "Extra Pressure," "Kudade," and "Kuna Kuna" since joining TikTok.

Collo also praised artist Savara, revealing that over a million shillings were invested in the "Show You Off" music video, with Savara entrusting him with its choreography. He added that they had already utilized half the budget after being paid for the work.

Championing Dancers' Value

As the founder of the Cluster Dance Company, known for its high-energy performances blending African styles with Kenyan music, Collo observed that audiences haven't fully matured to appreciate the intensity and dedication required in dance.

Despite this, challenges persist, with some of his content going unnoticed. He strongly emphasized the vital role dancers play in the music ecosystem, urging musicians to value their contributions fairly.

"Dancers need fair pay to cover rent and essentials," he argued, asserting that a minimum of 10,000 shillings should be offered for performances, a stark contrast to the often meager 3,000 shillings provided.
