Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna had the audience in stitches during a public event in Migori county, where he reminisced about his first love, a nurse named Cynthia.

Speaking at a celebration marking Nurses’ Week, the charismatic politician painted a vivid picture of their romance, crediting Cynthia for her unwavering care during his broke days.

“My first meaningful relationship was with a nurse who truly loved me,” he shared, sparking laughter. “I’ve just texted her, and she warned me not to go overboard!”

Sifuna recounted meeting Cynthia at a nursing school at Nairobi Hospital. At the time, he was living in a modest single-quarter in South B, scraping by financially.

Despite her gruelling shifts, Cynthia would return home exhausted, her eyes red, yet prioritise caring for him before resting.

“She’d come back tired, take a shower, and still look after me before sleeping,” he said, his admiration evident. The anecdote, delivered with humour and warmth, highlighted the selflessness of nurses, aligning with the event’s theme.

Edwin Sifuna

The confession follows Sifuna’s recent hint at being single while speaking at Ong'ondo Were's funeral, which raised eyebrows given his earlier revelations about his family life.

In an April 2024 interview on the Mic Cheque Podcast, Sifuna clarified that he has been with his wife, from Matungu, since 2015 and is a father.

He humorously recalled how clan elders, before his election, grilled him with three questions, including whether he had a wife.

“I had to officially marry in 2015 and pay dowry,” he said, affirming his commitment. “I’m a one-woman man, and I love my wife dearly,” he added, laughing off suggestions that his past earnings attracted multiple partners.

Sifuna also shared his career journey, revealing he left a KSh 400,000 white-collar job to hustle, running a small law firm earning KSh 50,000 and writing newspaper articles for KSh 60,000 monthly.

Despite the financial dip, he remained steadfast in his values, rejecting any playboy persona.
