Lecturer Records Video Teaching Empty Class After Students Fail to Turn Up

A lecturer has gone viral after a video of him teaching an empty classroom was shared online. It is alleged that the students failed to show up for the classroom.

In the video, the man, said to be a professor in one of Nigeria’s universities, is seen entering the lecture room, but to his utter shock, all the seats are empty with no single student.

To prove his dedication, he recorded a video of himself delivering the lecture despite the absence of students.

The incident was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where the professor is seen standing in front of a deserted lecture hall, explaining a topic in his course with no student in sight.

“Today, we’d have started our course program for the semester. But unfortunately, the students are yet to be seen, and nowhere to be found. But I'm happy that Dr. Sunde Jonatan, who happens to be the student's advisor for the department, and the Quality Assurance Director for the department as well, is around and is witnessing the empty class,” he is seen talking while the camera is panning from one corner to another in an empty lecture room.

“All the same, I feel I should be allowed to register my presence and to let the students know that I arrived here,” he added.

According to the post caption, the professor reportedly decided to proceed with the lecture and film the session to serve as evidence that he was present and ready to teach, even though none of his students showed up.

“A Professor delivering lectures to an entirely empty class...He even came with a camera man in case any needs evidence,” the post read.

The video elicited mixed reactions, with some sympathizing with the alleged professor while others lamenting on the defiance of the Gen Zs – whom majority of them are currently in university.
