During a recent candid interview on Dr. Ofweneke’s show on TV47, actress and DJ Pierra Makena narrated her inspiring yet challenging journey in the entertainment industry—from her humble beginnings in Meru to facing backlash as Kenya’s pioneering female DJ.

From Drama Festivals to KBC Fame

Pierra revealed that her career began at just 17 when she moved to Nairobi and landed a role in KBC’s iconic show Tausi, thanks to her standout performances in school drama festivals.

"KBC scouted me because of my acting. That’s where it all started," she said.

Dr. Ofweneke, who first met Pierra during his Aga Khan High School days, reminisced about her early rise—a time when she was one of the few women breaking into male-dominated spaces.

The Only Female DJ

Pierra didn’t hold back about the hurdles she faced as a trailblazing DJ. "Fellow DJs were my biggest critics. Someone even paid a Twitter troll to attack me," she disclosed, highlighting the sexism she endured.

The challenges didn’t stop there. She lost a brand deal simply for being a single mother. "They said their image couldn’t be tied to ‘single moms,’" Pierra recalled, shaking her head.

Rumours also swirled that her child was fathered by DJ Moh, which she firmly denied: "We’re just good friends. Period."

Launching "The Mom’s Club" – And a Playful Revelation

Looking ahead, Pierra announced The Mom’s Club, launching May 30—a safe space for mothers to share struggles and triumphs. "If you’re curious about my baby’s dad or my love life, that’s where you’ll hear it," she teased.

The interview took a lighthearted turn when Pierra joked about her sexuality. "I’m not straight—I’m quite curvy!" she quipped, leaving Dr. Ofweneke momentarily stunned before they shared a laugh.
