Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind. The award-winning star recently found herself at the centre of social media chatter after participating in a viral TikTok challenge set to a provocative Tanzanian song.

The track's lyrics, which playfully boasted about "stealing husbands," prompted a pointed comment from one follower who sniped: "Ndio maana wako akaenda" ("That's why yours left").

Matubia's response was swift and characteristically unapologetic. Rather than engaging in lengthy explanations, she cleverly used another song – King Kaka's "Soko" – to dismiss the remark.

The lyrics she highlighted roughly translate to: "Take your opinions to Ruto, take your feelings over there..." Her caption drove the point home: "Buy a dictionary to find out the meaning of lip sync or challenge. Feelings take them there."

This isn't the first time the mother of two has addressed public scrutiny about her love life. In a November 2024 interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Matubia revealed she'd been celibate for three years following her split from Blessing Lung'aho, father of her youngest child Zendaya.

"I stayed celibate for almost three years now. I did not want anything," she admitted, explaining this period allowed her to focus on healing and her children.

The actress has navigated two significant relationships that ultimately ended, giving her a unique perspective on modern romance.

She's particularly vocal about warning young women against the dangerous assumption that pregnancy guarantees commitment. "For girls who think getting pregnant will keep a man, just know you'll end up raising that child alone," she cautioned.

Matubia's relationship with Lung'aho had initially seemed like a fairytale. Their Valentine's Day 2022 pregnancy announcement was followed by an engagement two months later, with the actress gushing on social media: "He proposed, and I said yes! I can't wait to spend the rest of my life laughing and loving you always!"

Yet reality proved more complicated. Reflecting on the relationship's breakdown, Matubia shared: "When I told the dad to go, he left. And in my head, this is not my first time raising a child outside of marriage... I fought for the dad to be in the daughter's life." Her voice carried resignation as she added: "You cannot force a man to be present if he doesn't want to be."

The "Zora" star contrasts this experience with her healthier co-parenting relationship with her first child's father. "We are very good friends," she noted. "When you look past the fighting, a man who truly loves and is there for his child means everything to me, regardless of what happened between us."

Matubia's journey hasn't been without its emotional toll. She confessed to initially feeling bitter after her split from Lung'aho: "I harboured a desire for this person to suffer as I had."

But she eventually reached an epiphany: "Is my child's well-being even worth this constant conflict? The answer was a resounding no – hakuna haja."
