
M-PESA’s launch in Ethiopia has shown strong momentum, with customer numbers reaching 10.8 million by December 2024.
The platform has partnered with 63,000 merchants, including 70 supermarket outlets and 26,000 agents across the country.
These partnerships enable convenient access to digital financial services for millions of Ethiopians.
To strengthen its position, M-PESA has also collaborated with 12 banks and three commercial money transfer services.
The platform is particularly targeting the urban youth market by positioning itself as a digital-first solution.
With three million Ethiopians turning 18 every year, M-PESA is poised to capture a growing base of young, tech-savvy users.
