Recently, an undated video surfaced on social media showing a Nigerian archbishop performing an unusual religious ritual in which he touched tongues with another male bishop.
The incident sparked intense debate and mixed reactions among believers and the general public.
In the video, the senior archbishop is seen pouring water on the young bishop’s head three times, then handing him a bottle to drink from.
Afterward, both men stuck out their tongues and touched them three times, an act that left many in shock and led to widespread criticism.
The unusual ritual raised many questions about its legitimacy and appropriateness in the Christian faith. Many people strongly condemned the act, viewing it as contrary to religious teachings and social morals.
Following intense public backlash, the archbishop issued a public apology, acknowledging that his actions were inappropriate and should not have taken place.
He asked for forgiveness from his followers and the general public for violating religious principles and ethical conduct.
In response to the controversy, the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria distanced itself from the incident and disavowed the archbishop.
The church’s leadership released a statement clarifying that the ritual was not part of their doctrine or traditions.
"We strongly condemn this act and want the public to know that it has no connection with our teachings. The archbishop acted on his own, and we do not take responsibility for his actions," the church leaders stated.
This incident has sparked a broader discussion on the importance of following proper religious doctrines and practices.
