Henry Desagu
Popular comedian and content creator Henry Desagu has made his first public appearance after battling depression and alcohol addiction.

On Sunday, March 2, he attended a church service at JCM Church, led by Bishop Muthee Kiengei, where he shared his emotional journey to healing and recovery.

Desagu, who had taken a break from comedy and social media, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during his lowest moments.

He acknowledged the prayers and encouragement from friends, family, and well-wishers who stood by him.

"Thank God for healing me, and I appreciate Bishop Ben Guka wa Nairobi Muthee Kiengei for the prayers. Thanks to Mofarm JM for walking with me through this journey. I appreciate everyone for their great support," he shared.

For months, Desagu struggled with mental health issues that affected his career. His once-thriving comedy skits, which had made him a household name, began to decline.

His family later revealed that he was battling severe depression and alcoholism, which eventually led to his hospitalization.

During his testimony at JCM Church, Desagu openly admitted how life had taken a toll on him.

"I’m the one who always tells you ‘umbwedede’ on social media, but in reality, life had made me ‘umbwedede.’ I was sick with depression, but God is good. I went to the hospital and received treatment," he told the congregation.

Henry Desagu being prayed for

Desagu’s journey to recovery was made possible through the generosity of well-wishers. Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia organized a fundraiser to cover his medical and rehabilitation expenses.

Businessman Elijah Njoroge, also known as Mofarm JM, also played a significant role in ensuring Desagu got the help he needed.

Bishop Kiengei, who prayed for the comedian during the church service, encouraged him to remain strong and make a comeback in his career.

"Now that he is well, Desagu must use his talent to rise again. He should remain strong and continue with his purpose," the bishop advised.

Denying Rumours of Illness

In November 2024, Desagu had dismissed rumours about his health. He posted a video with friends, assuring his fans that he was fine.

"Team Mwihoko, Team Umbwedede, we’re saying everything’s fine. The King of Mwihoko himself is here, and he’s strong," he said.

One of his friends, who recorded the video, urged Kenyans to stop spreading false information about Desagu’s condition.

"The economy is already tough, and people are going through a lot. Stop making life harder by spreading unverified rumors," he said.

Despite Desagu's public denial, troubling reports emerged earlier in the year. Facebook user Mwalimu Francis Njiriri had narrated an incident where he said that he had allegedly found Desagu in distress, walking in the middle of the road along Thika-Ngoingwa-Mangu Road.

Concerned for his safety, he stopped his car and, with the help of others, rushed him to Level 5 Hospital, where he was attended to by a mental health doctor.
