A man who sneaked into the bedroom of an 80-year-old granny and raped her will spend 20 years in prison.

The rapist inserted pepper into her private parts before fleeing.

JKM committed the crime in January 2014 and was on the run for two years before being arrested in 2016.

The Court of Appeal upheld his conviction and sentence on February 14, 2025.

The victim told the court the man broke into her bedroom at 10pm in their Molo home and raped her.

Her phone rang but the appellant threatened her not to answer it.

After he fled from scene, the elderly woman raised the alarm but she was too weak to be heard by neighbours.

In the early hours of the following morning, one of her children woke up a neighbour, reporting that her mother was unwell and calling for help.

The neighbour went to the house and found the victim trembling in her bed, ill and unable to walk.

She identified her abuser because they were neighbours.

“[She said] that J son of M had assaulted her. With the help of neighbours and family she was able to report the matter to the police and take [her] to hospital,” the court records state.

A medical report established that the victim had been raped and suffered grievous harm.

In his defence, JKM claimed his innocence, testifying that he was a casual labourer and that on the day that the crime was committed, he was away working in Bungoma.

At the Court of Appeal, he maintained his innocence, insisting he was not blame for the violation of the granny.

The three judges hearing the matter, however, tossed out the appeal, saying the evidence pointed to him.
