Mijungu confirmed his exit after four years with the station, citing contract-related reasons for his decision."I did not renew my contract," he disclosed to Kenyans.co.ke.
In a farewell message posted online, Mijungu reflected on his time at KTN, stating,"A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! 4 years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best; as unpredictable as it was, it is time to find something else to do when I still can. Forever grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group PLC and KTN News. Adios!"
While Mijungu remained tight-lipped about his immediate plans, speculation arose regarding his next career move.
Reports online hinted at a potential transition to Cape Media, the company behind TV47 and Radio 47, owned by Mount Kenya University founder and billionaire, Prof. Simon Gicharu.
Mijungu's path to journalism is an interesting one. A trained lawyer, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Moi University, earned in 2007, and attended Maseno School from 1998 to 2001 for his secondary education.

Before his media career took off, he even worked as a cab driver. His entry into the field was somewhat accidental, occurring during the tumultuous 2007/2008 post-election violence.
While covering the events in Kibera, he borrowed a camera from his brother to document what he was witnessing.
This footage, capturing the raw reality of the situation, caught the attention of K24's management after their own crew lost their recordings due to the chaos.
This fortuitous event led to his recruitment as a reporter, launching his career in broadcast journalism.
Mijungu's professional journey has taken him through several of Kenya's leading media houses. He spent approximately three years and nine months at K24, where he honed his skills as a news desk reporter, business talk anchor, and talk show host.
In December 2012, he joined CCTV Africa (now CGTN Africa), where he worked as a reporter for a little over a year, covering significant international events such as the Mpila military base explosion in Congo Brazzaville and the London conference on Somalia.
In February 2013, Mijungu joined Nation Media Group's NTV, where he spent seven years as a senior reporter and the host of the current affairs program "Sidebar," known for its in-depth interviews with prominent figures. His time at NTV solidified his reputation as a sharp and insightful journalist.
After a period away from television, Mijungu made a comeback in December 2020, joining Standard Group's KTN News as a news anchor.

His four-year tenure at KTN further cemented his position as a respected figure in Kenyan media.
Beyond his journalism career, Mijungu is also an entrepreneur with interests in the transport and aviation sectors.
Mijungu's departure from KTN follows the recent exit of another prominent journalist from the Standard Media Group, Eric Latiff, just a month prior.
