For years, rumours have swirled about Rapudo’s finances, with some alleging that his luxurious lifestyle—complete with high-end cars and a grand mansion—was linked to illegal dealings, including fraud and gold scams. However, Amber has set the record straight.
In an interview with SPM Buzz, Amber revealed that Rapudo is involved in the tours and travel business, but not in the way many people assume.
“When people cannot figure you out, they come up with stories to explain your success. My husband is not a ‘wash wash’ guy. He runs a genuine business,” she stated.
She further explained that Rapudo works closely with Dutch partners, specifically helping Dutch nationals travel within East Africa.
“He works with Dutch people. He has a partner who brings Dutch tourists to Africa, mainly East Africa. That’s why you see us traveling around Kenya so much. We don’t need to advertise in Kenya because it’s already advertised in the Netherlands,” she clarified.
Amber also spoke about the constant criticism and speculation surrounding their lives, stating that their strong communication helps them deal with the negativity.
“The best way to handle this is by being truthful with each other. If something happens, I’d rather hear it from him first. That way, it’s easier for us to separate lies from the truth,” she shared.

Rapudo himself has previously addressed the accusations. In early January 2025, he shut down the claims of fraud and money laundering, urging people to stop making baseless assumptions.
“Gold scams? Wash wash? That’s not my thing, and it never will be. People who truly know me understand my values and principles. I’ve never been involved in anything illegal, and I never will be. If I was, there would be evidence everywhere, not just rumors from idle minds,” he stated.
He also pointed out the irony of people questioning his wealth now, yet no one asked about his struggles when he was broke.
“It’s funny how people love to speculate about others instead of focusing on their own lives. Back when I was struggling, no one asked about the source of my poverty. Maybe it’s just jealousy and bitterness. Instead of obsessing over a private citizen’s wealth, we should be focusing on bad governance and holding our leaders accountable,” he said.
Rapudo’s journey to financial success was far from easy. After completing Form Four, he started out as a hawker in Nairobi, selling household items like flasks to make ends meet. Over the years, he engaged in various small businesses, including brickmaking and poultry farming, in search of financial stability.
“I started by hawking and then moved on to making bricks and poultry farming. I was constantly hustling,” he recalled.
Determined to better his life, Rapudo pursued higher education and earned his first Master’s degree from the University of Nairobi.
During his studies, he worked with oil companies like TULO and Africa Oil, gaining research skills and industry connections. Later, he obtained a second Master’s degree from USIU, drawn by their exceptional academic programs.
“In my work with oil companies, I gained valuable experience. Then I pursued my second Master’s at USIU because of their outstanding programs,” he said.

In 2015, Rapudo left employment and ventured into entrepreneurship, initially running multiple Uber cars. His big break came when he joined a Dutch travel company, which paved the way for his success in the tours and travel industry.
