Over the years, his health has been a subject of public concern due to various medical incidents. Here’s a timeline of the health challenges that have marked his career.

2008: The Arusha Incident

In October 2008, Jose Chameleone suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of the Impala Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.

The singer, who had traveled to perform at a music show with his brother, Emma Mayanja, reported that he had gone to sleep after his performance but woke up on the first floor surrounded by people.

The accident was attributed to sleepwalking, although speculation about intoxication also emerged. Chameleone sustained multiple fractures and underwent extensive treatment.

Reflecting on the incident years later, he shared the emotional impact it left: “Today morning began just like the 4th of October 2008 did… My last time in Arusha was tragic and a big challenge, but I happily accepted God’s plans for me!”

2015: Stomach Complications

In 2015, Chameleone experienced significant health issues stemming from severe stomach complications.

His father, Gerald Mayanja, confirmed that the musician had been bedridden for several weeks and was in serious condition.

Following his hospitalization, Chameleone underwent a surgical procedure that was reportedly successful.

The period was marked by concern from fans and family, though Chameleone managed to recover and return to the music scene.

2021: Hospitalization in Uganda

Chameleone was discharged from the hospital after several days in the ICU. Initially, reports suggested that the legendary musician was battling serious pancreas and liver-related disorders.

However, his wife at the time quickly clarified that he was not suffering from these conditions.

She revealed that he was diagnosed with H. Pylori, a common bacterial infection that affects the stomach lining.

Following his discharge, Chameleone's spokesperson confirmed that the musician was recovering well at home.

2023: Hospitalization in the United States

In July 2023, Chameleone faced another serious health challenge while in the United States. He was hospitalized due to prolonged stomach complications, which had persisted for several weeks.

His father once again addressed the public, stating that the situation was critical but under control. Stuart Kagoro, Chameleone’s media manager, assured fans that the musician was receiving professional care and was on the path to recovery.

December 2024: Alleged Acute Pancreatitis

The most recent development in Chameleone’s health journey came in December 2024 when his son, Abba Marcus, alleged that the musician was battling acute pancreatitis.

This condition, caused by prolonged alcohol consumption, had reportedly led to significant weight loss and other complications.

Marcus addressed public misconceptions surrounding his father’s condition, defending his mother, Daniella Atim, against accusations of being responsible for Chameleone’s struggles.

“My father struggles with alcohol addiction... It disheartens me to see people blaming my mother,” Marcus said.

He also criticized family members for their lack of support, adding, “The complete irresponsibility of my father’s parents is part of the problem.”

Marcus further disclosed that doctors had warned Chameleone about the severity of his condition, stressing the need for immediate lifestyle changes to avoid further health risks.
