Align programmes with global job demands - Varisities urged

Higher learning institutions have been challenged to commit to aligning their programs with global job demand in a bid to increase global competitiveness and enhance student and staff mobility.

At a time when global industries have been demanding all-rounded, competitive and agile graduates possessing the skills that meet global standards, Zetech University chancellor Prof. Susan Alfano Nkinyangi insisted on the need for integration of international dimension into education and research in the local universities.

While insisting that internationalization is key in improving the quality of education and research for all students to eventually positively contribute to society, Nkinyangi added that the move will uniquely position Kenyans to leverage opportunities in the interconnected world.

She revealed that the varsity has embarked on internationalizing its programs through strategic partnerships, broadened opportunities for student exchange programmes, research collaborations, and market linkages in a bid to bring students closer to alignment with global trends.

“Universities should be grounded in nurturing creativity, fostering adaptability, and advancing skills that cater to the demands of a rapidly evolving world. For us, we are committed to innovation and green skills empower you to play a critical role in creating sustainable solutions that will benefit society and the environment,” stated Nkinyangi.

She maintained that the world needs forward-thinking individuals who can envision a cleaner, more prosperous future, and called on varsities to prepare students to lead in that direction.

Speaking at the university’s Mang’u campus on Monday, the chancellor noted that creativity and green skills are essential tools to tackle the pressing issues of the current time, from climate change to resource scarcity.

She at the same time implored on graduates to uphold the highest levels of integrity in their areas of work saying that honesty is the cornerstone of trust and responsibility, a trait that will set them apart as reliable and ethical individuals in every endeavour.

“The achievements of today’s interconnected world are the result of cooperative efforts, and your ability to work effectively within diverse teams will be invaluable. We are committed to providing a high-calibre education, meeting ISO standards, and ensuring that the quality of our graduates is universally recognized,” she said.

The chancellor further rooted for innovation among the learners and graduates saying that numerous global issues require urgent solutions.

At the same time, the University announced plans to construct an ultra-modern student accommodation facility at the Technology Park Mang’u campus.

“This facility will not only enhance the student’s experience but will give comfort to our parents/guardians that your learner is safe and in a conducive environment,” a statement by the University Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene read.
