
Emmy nominated star Sara Mitaru has released a couple of projects that continue to be globally accepted. Some of her latest music include 'You Said' fetauring Bien Aime-Baraza, 'Kele' featuring Johnny Drille and 'My Baby' among others.
The Kenyan singer and songwriter is celebrated for her captivating performances and versatile musical talent.
With over 15 years of experience on both local and international stages, Sara has built a reputation for delivering powerful and emotionally resonant performances, captivating audiences from Nairobi to New York.
Sara has lent her unique voice to global projects such as the soundtrack to George Clooney’s “Sand and Sorrow” documentary about the Darfur crisis where she sang alongside legends like Stevie Wonder and Bono, showcasing her ability to blend powerful messages with her music.
She
also topped the Irish charts with her first charity-based project in 2006, marking a successful
media tour in Ireland and further establishing her as a respected international artist.
Sara’s influence reaches far beyond music. She made history as the youngest and first Black African woman to hold two United Nations ambassadorial positions, serving as a UN Habitat Messenger of Truth and a Millennial Development Goal Advocate.
Through these roles, she has worked alongside global leaders such as Graça Machel and Anna Tibaijuka, using her platform to champion causes of sustainability, human rights, and community empowerment.
A passionate advocate for Africa, Sara spearheaded the “Africans Act” campaign, which raised awareness of the famine in the Horn of Africa and garnered support from global artists.
Shortly thereafter, she was personally invited by Richard Curtis CBE, to be a part of “Project Everyone”, which seeks to accelerate progress towards a fairer, greener and more just world by 2030.
The collaboration resulted in a campaign titled “Tell Everybody” which brought together top artistes from across Africa, who got to perform in New York alongside Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran.
In addition to her studio work, Sara has a history of performing on prestigious global stages, including being one of the first female musicians to perform live at an African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
She also performed at the revered “Felabration” stage at the Shrine in Lagos to a
sold-out audience.
Her live performances have been described as electric and unforgettable, cementing her status
as a must-see performer wherever she goes.
After taking a brief hiatus to focus on her family, relocating to Los Angeles for three years, Sara
Mitaru-Kimanthi returned to the music scene with renewed energy and passion.
Upon settling back in Nairobi, she was tapped by renowned award winning Kenyan filmmaker and director, Tosh Gitonga to write and sing original music for his film “Disconnect 2” and thereafter his award winning series “Volume”.
In 2023, Sara released her EP titled “Resurrection” to rave reviews and positive reception.
