Renowned artist and political activist Kasmuel McOure has officially joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), led by Raila Odinga.
In a statement on Sunday, Kasmuel, who gained significant popularity during youth-led protests, announced that the party is now ready to revive youth and student leagues nationwide. This followed his meeting with the party’s chairperson, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.
Kasmuel emphasized that ODM is the only party supporting the people across East and Central Africa.
The activist also urged young people to join ODM, highlighting it as the only political movement committed to building a nation where everyone can live with dignity.
"If you are ready to join a great political movement for a just, democratic Kenya where everyone can live with dignity, consider @TheODMparty—the largest grassroots-supported party in East and Central Africa!"
"We are reviving Youth and Student Leagues, and we’re calling on passionate young Kenyans to help shape our future. Stand with us! Thank you, party chairperson @gladyswanga, for your trust and for welcoming us this weekend," Kasmuel added.
Kasmuel mentioned that he, along with others, will actively recruit both educated and uneducated youth to join the party.
He will also be part of a campaign to encourage youth membership in ODM.
Governor Wanga stated that the future of ODM lieMpshos with bright, young people like Kasmuel McOure.
"ODM is the party of the future, and its destiny is in the hands of our youth. Our Gen Zs and Gen Alphas are the future, and that’s why we are committed to greater inclusion of talented youth like (Kasmuel) McOure," she said.
Kasmuel’s move to join ODM comes a few weeks after his meeting with the former Prime Minister and founding leader of ODM, Raila Odinga.
Kasmuel is among the young activists who became the face of the Gen Z protests in Kenya earlier this year, following the passage of the controversial 2024 Finance Bill by Parliament.
The young activist was one of the leaders in the movement against the government, both online and on the streets.
