The State of Journalist Welfare Survey, released on October 30, 2026, reveals wide disparities in journalists' access to workplace amenities.
Basic necessities are the most accessible, with 73 per cent of journalists having access to drinking water, 68 per cent to a comfortable desk, 64 per cent to clean toilets and 63 per cent to a comfortable chair.
However, access drops for other workplace amenities. Only 47 per cent have access to tea, 44 per cent to fast and reliable internet, 43 per cent to a boardroom and 40 per cent to a microwave oven.
Fewer than four in 10 journalists have access to lockable lockers (37 per cent), refrigerators (31 per cent), private call rooms (28 per cent) and lunchrooms (27 per cent).
Recreational and rest facilities are particularly scarce, with only 11 per cent reporting access to a games room and just two per cent having access to a napping room.
