Kenyan content creator Ronoo and his two siblings have paid tribute to their late mother, Rebecca Chebet Maru, by recreating the pose from her final photograph.

He shared the image on Instagram with the caption “WE LOVE YOU MUM ❤️”.

In the image, Ronoo smiles with his hands raised, dressed in a grey cap, light grey shirt and dark trousers. Beside him is a photograph of a smiling person in a similar pose, linking the siblings to the mother they are remembering.

The story behind the photo

Rebecca was a keen runner. Ronoo had earlier shared what he described as her last photograph, taken during a race in the United States on October 2, the day she died.

The image shows her looking energetic and joyful. The date is visible in the background.

A family’s tribute: Ronoo recreates his late mother’s final pose.

Paying tribute to his mother earlier, Ronoo called her “strong, joyful, and full of life”. He said the photograph showed one of her beautiful moments and added that the memories she made would stay with the family.

The recreated pose, performed with his siblings, carries that memory forward as a tribute from all of them.

Remembering Rebecca Chebet Maru

Rebecca died on October 2, 2026, after a sudden medical emergency at home. She developed breathing difficulties after breakfast with her children, and the family rushed her to hospital. She was declared dead on arrival, according to the family’s account.

A memorial service was held at AIC Milimani on October 9, bringing together relatives, friends and well-wishers. The family laid her to rest on Tuesday, October 13, at their home in Chepkunyuk Ward, Nandi Hills, Nandi County.

She had seemed well the evening before and had spent ordinary family time with her children. Those everyday moments have since become treasured memories.

The recreated photograph is the latest image in the family’s remembrance of Rebecca. It echoes a moment captured on the day she died, and gives that picture new meaning as the family continues to grieve together.
