A throwback video of Pastor Victor Kanyari speaking warmly about Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, has resurfaced amid the ongoing custody dispute involving his children with the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.

In the video, Kanyari reflected on his relationship with Tash, explaining how his daughter Sky helped the two men develop mutual respect following Bayo’s death.

The footage has attracted renewed attention after a court awarded Kanyari custody of Sky and her younger brother, Danny, who had been living with Tash following their mother’s death in November 2025.

Kanyari speaks about his relationship with Tash.

In the resurfaced clip, the preacher described how he and Tash had managed to maintain a relationship despite their shared connection to Bayo.

Kanyari acknowledged that the two men had reached an understanding and urged them to avoid unnecessary conflict.

“Tash, we understood each other. When mama was alive, we continued that. Let us not fight here or quarrel with each other. I have respected everything, and when I see there is meaning, I will stay within my limits,” he said.

His remarks offered a glimpse into the relationship between the two men before the latest developments in the custody dispute.

Kanyari credits Sky for bringing them together

The preacher also credited his daughter Sky with helping him develop a better relationship with Tash.

According to Kanyari, the circumstances surrounding Bayo’s death brought the men into the same space, allowing them to understand each other better.

He described a relationship built on mutual respect, expressing his desire to maintain that understanding rather than allow disagreements to drive them apart.

The video has since drawn renewed interest because Tash is now at the centre of the dispute over where Sky and Danny should live.

Following Bayo’s death, the children continued living with Tash, who had helped raise them alongside their mother.

Video resurfaces after custody ruling.

The resurfaced footage comes after a court awarded Kanyari custody of his two children with Bayo.

The decision sparked public debate after Sky openly expressed her distress over the ruling and said she wanted to remain with Tash.

Both children have reportedly expressed a preference to stay with the man they had been living with following their mother’s death.

The dispute has prompted discussions about the children’s wishes, their relationship with their biological father and the emotional challenges they face while grieving their mother.
