KCB FC captain Humphrey Mieno says the bankers are prepared for a tough test away to Gor Mahia this weekend as they seek to improve their start to the season.

The veteran midfielder acknowledged that facing the league leaders would be challenging, with Gor Mahia enjoying an impressive run of form after winning all their opening four matches.

“Playing against Gor Mahia is always going to be tricky, but I believe our coaches will prepare us to face them,” said Mieno.

“Gor Mahia are in a good run of form currently, and we have to be ready physically and mentally to face them.”

Robert Matano’s side have recorded two wins, one draw and one defeat in their opening four matches and they are currently sitting second in the league standings, leaving them keen to build momentum against a Gor Mahia side that has made a perfect start to the campaign.

Despite the mixed results, Mieno remains optimistic about the team's progress, insisting there is still room for improvement as the players adapt to their coach's philosophy.

“We are not where we wanted to be at this stage of the season, but there is still room for improvement. We are getting better as a team,” he added.

“We have some new signings in the team, and we are yet to get the chemistry and play to the philosophy of the coach. I believe with time we will get better, and you will see a more confident team,”

“We have not even been playing to half of our potential yet and I believe we will get better.”

The experienced midfielder also pointed to the congested fixture schedule as one of the challenges affecting teams this season following delays in the start of the league.

He noted that clubs have had to adjust to shorter recovery periods, with some teams playing matches just two days apart instead of the usual weekly schedule.

“We knew that the league delaying to start will definitely bring this to us. We were used to playing one game per week, but now we even have teams playing after two days,” he said.

“At some point, it affects our performance as a league, but all the teams will have to adapt as fast as possible because it is affecting all of us.”

KCB will now look to overcome the challenge posed by Gor Mahia and strengthen their position in the standings, while the record Kenyan champions will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the season.
