Elim WHite ladies' striiker Purity Awino/ HANDOUT

Elim White Ladies coach Dan Masonic faces the challenge of tightening his side’s defence and improving attack output as the promoted outfit battles to climb out of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Premier League relegation zone.

Formerly Trans Nzoia Falcons, Elim have collected just one point from their opening five matches, leaving them 11th in the 12-team standings.

Elim have scored twice and conceded 13 goals, highlighting their difficulties at both ends of the pitch.

“I will be more tactical and approach matches with caution,” Masonic said before the season started. “It is a league where we should not be caught flat-footed.”

Elim have conceded in all five matches and failed to score in three, leaving Masonic with an urgent task of improving their defensive organisation and attacking efficiency.

“We have to address our defensive organisation and improve how we respond when we lose possession. We cannot afford to keep conceding goals at this rate, so our focus is on correcting the mistakes and becoming more disciplined as a unit,” he said.

Captain Monicah Naswa, popularly known as Masega, and forward Purity Awino are expected to spearhead the attack, while new signing Laura Atsabina offers another option as Elim seek to become more clinical in front of goal.

“We need to create more chances, improve our decision-making in the final third and be more clinical when opportunities come. Scoring goals will be important if we are to start collecting points,” Masonic said.

Elim’s difficult start contrasts sharply with their impressive 2025/26 Women’s National Super League campaign, when they finished second in Zone B with 42 points from 18 matches. They won 13 games, drew three and lost two, scoring 47 goals and conceding 11 to secure promotion.

Their only point this season came in a 1-1 draw against Trinity Starlets on October 4. They subsequently lost 3-0 to Mathare United Women before the heavy defeat by Ulinzi.

Masonic remains determined to turn their fortunes around, with upcoming fixtures against Gideon Starlets on November 22, Shabana Starlets on November 29 and Bungoma Queens on December 6 offering opportunities to revive their campaign.

“Our position is not where we want to be, but we have to take responsibility and work our way out of it. Every match is an opportunity to earn points,” he said.
