Kenyan content creator Natalie Tewa has released behind-the-scenes videos from her two-day traditional wedding celebrations to a Nigerian man, showing the outfits, dancing and family gatherings that marked the occasion.

In one clip, she can be heard saying: “Yesss I’m gonna marry a Nigerian and you gonna wear gele to my wedding.”

Tradition on day one, reception on day two

Tewa, who recently announced she is marrying a Nigerian man after three years of dating, posted the videos on her Instagram page. They cover the traditional proceedings and the reception attended by family and guests.

The first day was devoted to tradition and the second to the reception.

“Day one was all about tradition, where the groom’s family came to our family home for a more intimate gathering, just as custom dictates,” she said.

The second day brought relatives and guests together to celebrate the couple.

Candid moments

Tewa also shared clips of guests dancing and mingling. She indicated she was close to ending her series of recaps.

“This might just be the last video because I’m officially tayaaaad of these recaps..,” she captioned one of the posts.

“But what a beautiful time it was! May we be covered in God’s grace. Amen,” she added.

What the bride, groom and bridesmaids wore

For the second day, Tewa wore a floor-length gown in gold embroidery and deep green fabric. It had an embellished bodice, sheer embroidered sleeves and a long green train. Green fabric was draped around her waist.

She completed the look with a beige-gold gele, the traditional Nigerian headwrap.

Her fiancé wore a cream and beige agbada-style robe, a green embroidered cap, green beads, a walking stick and black shoes.

The bridesmaids wore white dresses with green patterned sashes and matching headwraps.

Two families come together

Tewa said the celebrations brought her Nigerian in-laws together with her Kikuyu and Meru relatives.

“I feel so blessed to have gained such a vibrant, fun-loving family to add to my already wonderfully crazy one; there will never be a dull moment with this lot.”

The first day centred on Kumenya Mucii. The Kikuyu custom involves the groom’s family visiting the bride’s family home as part of the marriage process.

Tewa announced her engagement on October 24, saying she and her fiancé had been together for three years. She added that her mother helped bring them together.

She has not shared all the details of her fiancé’s identity, but confirmed in her latest videos that he is Nigerian.
