Kenyan content creator Kelvin Kinuthia has announced plans to use portable toilets after facing backlash for revealing that he uses ladies’ washrooms in public places.

The social media personality addressed the controversy following divided reactions from Kenyans after he publicly confirmed his washroom preference, adding his voice to a debate sparked by fellow content creator Jony the Hairdresser.

In remarks shared online, Kinuthia said he would consider portable toilets until a solution could be found, noting that some women and men had expressed discomfort with his use of their respective facilities.

His response has added another dimension to the ongoing conversation about public washroom access, privacy and the experiences of people whose appearance challenges conventional expectations.

Kinuthia Turns to Portable Toilets After Public Backlash

Kinuthia suggested that portable toilets could offer a temporary solution as discussions surrounding his choice of public washrooms continue.

“Tumeskia, mimi nimesema nitatafuta portable toilets. Wengine wamesema watanipea pampers. I will use portable toilets until we find a solution; women wamesema hawatutaki, men wamesema hawatutaki,” he said.

His remarks followed criticism from some social media users who questioned his decision to use facilities designated for women.

Others, however, argued that people who present themselves in feminine clothing can experience difficulties when accessing men’s washrooms, particularly when their appearance attracts unwanted attention.

The debate has since drawn attention to the challenges faced by cross-dressers when navigating public spaces where facilities are traditionally divided into ladies’ and gents’ sections.

Jony the Hairdresser Explains Why He Uses Ladies’ Washrooms

The discussion gained moment after hair and makeup artist Jony the Hairdresser, whose real name is John Mokuna Mungai, spoke about his washroom preference during an interview with media personality Kwambox on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Jony explained that his feminine appearance, dressing and voice often lead people to perceive him as a woman, influencing his decision when choosing which facilities to use.

He also revealed that he informs bouncers and staff that he is a man before entering clubs to avoid misunderstandings.

His remarks prompted widespread discussion online, with some people expressing understanding while others raised concerns about privacy and safety in women’s facilities.

Kinuthia subsequently confirmed that he also uses ladies’ washrooms, adding that the issue had finally been addressed publicly.

Kenyans Debate Possible Solutions to Washroom Dispute

The controversy has attracted reactions from several social media personalities, with some calling for alternative arrangements that would accommodate people who face difficulties using conventional public washrooms.

TikToker Rakel Kenya urged the government to consider introducing additional facilities, arguing that the debate extends beyond entertainment venues to public places such as petrol stations.

Comedian and content creator Mulamwah also joined the discussion by sharing images of unisex toilets in China, presenting an alternative approach to the traditional separation of public washrooms.
