Kikuyu musician and content creator Karangu Muraya has visited his daughter Esther, popularly known as Essy, with gifts after missing her graduation ceremony.

Karangu faced criticism after his estranged wife, Triza Njeri, attended their daughter’s graduation on Monday, October 19, without him.

The musician later explained that he had attended the graduation of his late brother’s son, Asaph Kagema, whose ceremony coincided with Esther’s.

In a Facebook post addressing his daughter’s milestone, Karangu promised to celebrate her separately.

“Congratulations, my sweet daughter Esther, on your graduation. As we agreed last night, I will attend your brother Asaph’s graduation and then meet you later. I will always love you, darling; sasa ungojee gifts kutoka kwangu shortly…I love you darling,” he wrote.

Following the online discussion, Karangu visited his children with Triza, arriving with gifts and sharing a video of their reunion.

He also continued to celebrate Esther on social media, making it clear that he intended to honour her achievement despite missing the ceremony.

“I will celebrate my kids the whole of this week. Once again, congratulations, my Essie,” he wrote in another post.

The visit attracted reactions from social media users, with some expressing happiness at seeing the children reunite with their father.

@Ruth Mash commented: “Sijui kwanini nimeskia kulia, these kids just wish they would be staying with their dad; that joy after seeing him was on another level.”

@Naomi Kui Njee wrote: “Close your eyes, close your eyes, Saplaiiis. Lovely moments.”

Others, however, maintained that gifts could not replace a parent’s presence during an important milestone.

Mercy Marcel wrote: “Your presence at school is more important than a gift. Your presence during the school celebration creates a better impression in a child’s mind. Next time, be present during the graduation day activities. A gift is a plus. But attendance is a perfect gift.”

Why did Karangu miss Essy’s graduation?

The controversy began after Triza shared photos celebrating Esther’s graduation, prompting followers to question Karangu’s absence.

His explanation that he had attended Asaph’s graduation instead drew mixed reactions, with some understanding his commitment to his late brother’s family while others questioned his decision.

Karangu has previously spoken about his promise to support his late brother’s children.

The musician’s subsequent visit to his children with Triza shifted attention to his efforts to celebrate Esther after the ceremony.
