Content creator GK Nyambura has hit back at online critics of her body, saying public interest in her appearance grew after she lost weight and then regained it.

Nyambura said her Twitter posts once drew thousands of likes with no remarks about her weight. That changed, she explained, after she lost weight and later regained it.

“At my biggest, I’d post pictures of me on Twitter and get like 10k likes, and nobody would talk about my weight. Wait till you lose 5kg and gain it back. Now everyone wants to open a Telegram page to discuss my body,” she said in an Instagram Stories post.

Nyambura recalled regaining 10kg during a trip to the United States last year. On her return to Kenya, she said, Twitter users were talking about her body.

She said the reaction left her frustrated. She asked why strangers were so interested in what she eats.

“Like last year. I went to the US and gained 10kg back. I came back here, and Twitter was in shambles,” she said in the Instagram Stories post.

Nyambura said the choice of words was problematic. She argued that not every obese person could simply work out and lose weight.

The exchange came after Martina and Ajib discussed the topic on their podcast.
