Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has released a reggae love song titled Hit and Run, in which she cautions lovers against partners who pursue relationships for personal gain without any intention of making a commitment.

Released on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the song uses humour and relatable relationship experiences to highlight the dangers of getting involved with someone interested in enjoying the benefits of a relationship without taking responsibility for it.

Through its central message, Hit and Run encourages lovers to recognise the warning signs of such relationships and walk away before becoming emotionally invested in partners whose intentions are unclear.

The music video, filmed at a resort and along the beach, features Maina riding a quad bike as a man, acting as a potential suitor, pursues her in an apparent attempt to win her affection.

The playful scenes bring the song's message to life, presenting the pursuit of romance as a chase in which one party may be more interested in what they stand to gain than in building a lasting relationship.

The production also features Kirinyaga's Senator James Kamau Murango and MCA David Mathenge who are close associates of the woman representative. Murango takes on the role of a wealthy man, while Mathenge plays a watchman, adding a touch of humour and local political familiarity to the video.

Maina, a trained lawyer known for her human rights advocacy, is also no stranger to music. She previously pursued music while at university under the stage name Carola Jayne and expressed an intention to revive her music career. Her return to music adds another dimension to her public profile, which has largely been associated with parliamentary work, legal advocacy and defending the rights of young Kenyans.

The 32 year old woman representative has never disclosed whether she is in a relationship.
