County governments are set to receive an additional 71.9 billion shillings following President William Ruto’s signing of the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill, 2026, into law. The funds, sourced from the national government and development partners, will support county headquarters construction, enhance universal health coverage through enabling seamless transition of medical staff to PnP terms and provision of funds to community health promoters. Ruto also signed the County Assemblies Services Bill, 2026, which outlines procedures for removing county assembly clerks and board members to strengthen job security and institutional stability.
