Former Kenya Rugby Sevens star and culinary content creator Dennis Ombachi revealed a strange incident following a serious car crash.

Hanging upside down from his seatbelt inside his overturned car, the Olympian recalled how individuals acting as first responders stole his property.

The incident took place during an accident in January. Rather than aiding him immediately, the bystanders took his custom headwear.

Ombachi posted on social media detailing the theft: “Karibu inipeleke sayun January. Alafu hao 1st responders waliniibia kofia kama bado niko upside down in my seatbelt. Mkiona tailor made Kangemi ni yangu,” he revealed.

Mechanics and Washing Machine Sensations

Ombachi explained the circumstances that led to the vehicle rolling over.

He stated that his mechanic assured him that his hybrid vehicle had high performance suitable for local terrain.

Describing the impact, Ombachi recalled that the crash felt like being spun inside a household appliance.

Sharing his experience online, he wrote: “Makanika lied that a hybrid has the performance specs of the Urus but built for African roads. Nlikua naskia nikama niko ndani ya washing machine, also people finding you in an upside-down position as a man helpless like you’re waiting for some BDSM action has to be the worst way to go out.”

From Olympic Rugby Hero to Global Culinary Icon

Ombachi is widely recognised for his athletic achievements and viral culinary content. He represented Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, for ten years.

During the 2015 Africa Olympic qualifiers, he scored the winning try against Zimbabwe. That crucial score secured Kenya's place at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

He also represented Kenya at two Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments in 2013 and 2018.

Over his athletic career, Ombachi underwent five major surgeries due to severe injuries. Following a leg fracture in 2017 and a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2018, he retired from professional rugby.
