Kenyan gospel singer and preacher Pastor Ruth Matete has shared how a major surgery during her teenage years left her fearing she would never bear children.
Writing on social media, the musician disclosed that medical doctors cast doubt on her fertility when she was just 15 years old.
A Devastating Medical Diagnosis at 15
Matete explained that she had dreamt of family life from an early age. However, a surgical procedure as a teenager altered her outlook dramatically.
"I had a surgery when I was 15. The doctor told me that he was not sure I’d be able to have kids after that surgery," Matete wrote.

"I started dreaming of my wedding and marriage life when I was a young girl. That report shattered me," she recalled.
Fear, Relationships, and Faith
The uncertainty weighed heavily on Matete as she grew older, particularly when she began dating. She noted that she made a point of informing prospective partners about her potential inability to conceive.
"Some days I’d be scared. Especially when dating. I’d be quick to tell the man that I may not be able to give him kids," Matete shared.
She added lightheartedly: "Maybe that’s why they never stayed.”
Despite the medical diagnosis, Matete maintained her religious faith. She stated:
"But after a while I remembered that the report of the Lord is what mattered.”
Meeting Toluwa's Father
Her narrative changed when she met her late Nigerian husband, Beloved John Apewajoye. When Matete disclosed her medical history to him, his reaction was resolute.

Matete reflected on his confidence: "There was no arguing about it. It was a done deal.”
A Sixth Birthday Milestone
The couple welcomed a baby girl, named Reyna Toluwa Apewajoye, who is commonly known as Toluwa. Matete has previously noted how her daughter provided comfort following the death of her husband.
In an earlier message celebrating her daughter's second birthday, Matete wrote:

Now, Toluwa is preparing to celebrate her sixth birthday. Sharing her gratitude, Matete posted: "And this right here is the evidence. She will be 6 in 4 days.”
