Kenyan singer Bahati has opened up about his long-standing friendship with Pastor Victor Kanyari, revealing that the two have known each other for 13 years, though they haven't met in over a decade.

During their reunion, Bahati expressed his gratitude to the preacher, noting that their relationship dates back several years and that Kanyari was present during some significant moments in his life.

“Kwanza nimekuja kusema asante. Unajua watu hawajui mimi na wewe tumejuana miaka kumi na tatu.” Bahati says.

The conversation also touched on the late gospel singer Betty Bayo, with the preacher recalling his involvement in her relationship with Bahati.
“Wakati nilikuwa natongoza Betty Bayo, ulikuwa hapo.” Pastor Kanyari reveals.

The two also revisited the period when Kanyari became widely associated with charging KSh 310 for prayers, a chapter of his ministry that attracted public attention.

Bahati jokingly referred to the preacher by the nickname associated with that period.
“Wakati wa 310, Kanyari wa 310.” Bahati says.

Kanyari responded by reflecting on his financial circumstances at the time.
“Wakati nilikuwa na pesa,” Kanyari added.
Bahati, however, suggested that the preacher was still financially capable, pointing to his political ambitions.
“Hapana ata sahi uko na pesa, mtu anasimama MP Kasarani!” Bahati says.

The preacher recalled helping the singer financially at the start, saying he provided the money needed to record his first song.
“Kumbuka wimbo wako wa kwanza mimi ndio nilikupatia pesa.” Kanyari says.

Bahati went on to mention his debut song, Siku ya Kwanza, which is available on YouTube. He recalled how Kanyari and Betty Bayo accompanied him to the studio for the recording.

 Unveiling Hidden Past Support
The singer also disclosed that his wife had questioned him about Kanyari’s contribution to his career, saying she had not previously heard him acknowledge the preacher’s support.
“Bibi yangu ananiuliza Pastor Kanyari ashawai kusaidia na hujawai tuambia,” Bahati says.
He explained that he wondered why Kanyari was revealing the information before he had publicly shared it himself.
“Nikasema bwana mbona Pastor ananiexpose na ni mimi nafaa kujisemea,” Bahati added.
