Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has cautioned that progress in women’s political representation could be reversed, urging Parliament to enact legislation implementing the two-thirds gender principle before the 2027 General Election. She called it unacceptable that, 16 years after the Constitution’s promulgation, Kenya is still debating how to ensure neither gender exceeds two-thirds of elective bodies. Waiguru also urged women leaders to unite and support one another, saying internal divisions undermine their electoral chances.
