Sawmillers operating in the Central Highlands Conservancy have denied contributing to the destruction of the Aberdare Forest, insisting that ongoing harvesting is part of regulated plantation management. Drawn from Nyeri, Laikipia, Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties, they dismissed allegations of illegal logging, saying only mature plantation trees are felled. They urged politicians to seek clarification from the Kenya Forest Service before portraying the industry as a threat to the country’s forest ecosystems.
