Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged opposition leaders to account for their development record as he defended the Kenya Kwanza administration’s performance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kindiki said the government was ready to face voters with its development record after nearly four years in office, claiming it had exceeded expectations across key sectors of the economy.
He cited progress in infrastructure, education, agriculture, electricity connectivity and affordable housing, arguing that the administration’s record would strengthen its case for re-election.
“When it comes to service delivery, fighting poverty, building roads and markets, improving agriculture and advancing education, this government has exceeded all the expectations,” Kindiki said on Wednesday.
The Deputy President was speaking during an inspection of development projects in Kabete, Kiambu and Ruiru constituencies in Kiambu County, where he said the administration was implementing its campaign manifesto.
He said the government had honoured its campaign pledges, contrasting its performance with previous administrations, which he accused of failing to implement their development plans after taking office.
Kindiki cited more than 6,000 kilometres of roads under construction nationwide, 600 modern markets at various stages of development and agricultural reforms that he said had improved farmers’ earnings.
He also pointed to expanded last-mile electricity connections, the employment of 100,000 teachers and plans to recruit another 20,000 before the end of the year.
The affordable housing programme, he added, had generated more than 1.1 million jobs at construction sites across the country.
“These are promises we made which we are implementing: building markets and roads, expanding electricity connectivity and supporting farmers,” he said.
In Kiambu County, the government is undertaking projects worth billions of shillings, including 1,656 kilometres of roads estimated to cost Sh152 billion, 31 modern markets, affordable housing developments and hostels. The county has also received 14 milk coolers.
During Wednesday’s tour, Kindiki launched the construction of Muthure-Njathaini Road in Kabete, a Sh330 million project, and visited other ongoing road works in the constituency.
In Kiambu Constituency, he launched the construction of Kirigiti Primary and Junior School and inspected Kangangi Modern Market. In Ruiru, he inspected Rainbow-Gikumaru Road, launched the Gikumaru-Ruiru TTI Road project and assessed hostel construction at Ruiru Technical Training Institute.
Kindiki said the projects demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving services and expanding economic opportunities.
He challenged opposition politicians seeking to unseat President William Ruto to explain their achievements while in public office and present alternative policies instead of relying on political insults and confrontation.
“Anyone seeking votes must explain the work they have done for the people. Our opponents have served in office and they must tell Kenyans what they did for them,” he said.
Kindiki also vowed to sustain the government’s campaign against illicit alcohol and drug abuse, promising action against manufacturers, suppliers and cartels blamed for the problem.
The tour was attended by ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, several Kiambu County MPs and former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, among other leaders.
