Super MCs Mwalimu Rachel and Lotan Salaipei took centre stage at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, hosting the sold-out One Night Only: Brunch Edition concert on Mashujaa Day.
With microphones in hand beneath glittering chandeliers, the duo kept the crowd entertained with their energetic stage presence, hyping up fans and introducing DJ sets as the audience awaited American R&B star Ne-Yo.
Mwalimu Rachel, Lotan embody ‘Ne-Yo Luxe’ dress code
The two hosts embraced the event’s official dress code, dubbed “Ne-Yo Luxe”, with outfits that reflected the occasion’s style.
Mwalimu Rachel wore a sleeveless black mini dress featuring vertical white pinstripes, accentuated by a wide metallic gold statement belt that cinched her waist.
She completed the look with stacked gold bangles, drop earrings, crimson-red T-strap heels and a voluminous, naturally curly afro.
Lotan, meanwhile, opted for a sleek smart-casual look suited to the daytime event. He wore a fitted olive-green crew-neck T-shirt tucked into cream tailored trousers, secured with a woven brown belt.
Dark-tinted sunglasses, classic dress sneakers and gold wristbands completed his outfit.
Black-and-gold theme defines venue setup
The venue featured a black-and-gold theme, with chess-inspired installations and floral arches adding to the event’s visual appeal.
The concert was scheduled to run from 3pm to 11pm at the sports complex, combining live entertainment with a daytime brunch setting.
Fenon Premium Productions and Radio Africa Group organised the event, with Stanbic Bank as the lead sponsor.
Ticket holders verified their entry through Ticket Yetu to receive event wristbands. Standard Gold tickets cost Sh15,000, while the Gold Couple package, covering two tickets, sold for Sh20,000.
Premium hospitality options included the Regal Lounge Platinum, which featured draped seating, chandeliers and live grill stations.
Event colours paired with musical taglines
Organisers assigned eight colours to corresponding musical taglines as part of the event’s dress-code concept.
Gold was described as “made to shine”, while olive green represented “naturally in tune”. Black was associated with “smooth like the classics”, and navy with “deep like the feeling of love”.
Chocolate, meanwhile, was described as “rich like the bassline”.
The entertainment lineup featured DJs Xclusive, Andy Young, Chunky and Jesse, alongside UK band Sol & The Gang.
Ne-Yo returns to Kenya after 11 years
The brunch-themed concert combined live music with a relaxed social setting, with fans gathering for the performances ahead of Ne-Yo’s appearance.
The event marks the American singer’s first performance in Kenya in 11 years. He last performed in the country in 2015 during the third season of Coke Studio Africa.
