Breastfeeding mothers could benefit from private lactation rooms and flexible working arrangements under a Bill approved by MPs today. The Breastfeeding Mothers Bill, sponsored by Nominated MP Sabina Chege, requires employers in both the formal and informal sectors to provide well-ventilated lactation stations with comfortable seating, power outlets for breast pumps, cooling facilities and wash basins. The Bill also allows mothers to apply in writing for flexible working hours, duties or locations, with employers required to respond within 14 days and explain any rejection.
