Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has urged stronger controls to keep stolen livestock out of formal markets and slaughterhouses, warning that weak traceability may be fuelling the commercialisation of rustling. In a statement request to the Senate Agriculture Committee, she cited growing concerns over stolen animals moving through markets, transport networks and slaughter facilities, exposing gaps in ownership verification and movement documentation. She wants the committee to assess how effective current livestock traceability and market-control systems are.
