National Deputy Youth League Chairperson of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) John Mark Ojiambo/HANDOUT

John Mark Ojiambo, popularly known as Ababu, has been gazetted as the National Deputy Youth League Chairperson of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), formalising his appointment to a key youth leadership position within the party.

The appointment was published in the Kenya Gazette dated October 9, 2026, under Gazette Notice No. 16170, pursuant to the Political Parties Act (Cap. 7D).

The notice lists Ojiambo among the party officials as National Deputy Youth League Chairperson as NEDP outlines its leadership structure.

His appointment places him in a position to participate in organising and mobilising young people within the party, as political organisations seek to strengthen youth participation in leadership and national development.

The gazette notice also provides an opportunity for members of the public to raise objections or submit representations regarding the intended changes to the party officials.

It states that any person wishing to make written submissions concerning the changes may do so through the Registrar of Political Parties within seven days of publication.

The gazettement comes amid growing attention to the role of young people in Kenya's political and economic landscape, particularly on issues such as unemployment, entrepreneurship, education, innovation and access to leadership opportunities.

Youth representation within political parties provides a formal channel through which young people can participate in political organisation, policy discussions and decision-making processes.

As National Deputy Youth League Chairperson, Ojiambo is expected to be associated with NEDP's efforts to engage young people and strengthen their participation in the party's structures.

The position also offers a platform for youth-focused discussions on the social and economic challenges facing young Kenyans, including access to employment and opportunities for enterprise development.

However, the announcement did not outline specific programmes or targets that Ojiambo would pursue in his new role.

The appointment marks a new leadership responsibility for Ojiambo within NEDP as the party establishes its officials through the formal gazettement process.

The Political Parties Act provides the legal framework governing political parties in Kenya, including matters relating to party registration and the notification of changes to party officials.

The Registrar of Political Parties is responsible for maintaining records of registered political parties and their officials.

Through Gazette Notice No. 16170, the intended changes have been made public, allowing interested parties to submit representations within the stipulated period.

Ojiambo's gazettement formally identifies him as the party's National Deputy Youth League Chairperson, with his role expected to centre on youth mobilisation and participation in NEDP's political activities.
