Preparations to prevent flooding around Nairobi Dam are underway, with spillway works commencing to lower water levels. The ongoing works are aimed at reducing the risk of flooding as authorities prepare for the anticipated El Niño rains, which could increase water volumes in the dam and surrounding waterways. Nairobi River Commission Vice-Chair Mumo Musuva said rehabilitation is necessary to address years of neglect, pollution and structural problems that have weakened the dam’s ability to control floods.
