Weak law enforcement and gaps in the law are allowing perpetrators of child marriage to escape conviction, says founder of Samburu Girls Foundation Dr Josephine Kulea. She says many cases are prosecuted as defilement instead of child marriage, while politicians remain silent for fear of losing votes. Kulea is urging counties to ensure children progress beyond early childhood education to higher levels of learning to help curb child marriage. Her remarks come a day after the world marked the International Day of the Girl Child.
