The government plans to import up to 10 million bags of maize to bridge an anticipated production deficit following the impact of this year's long rains. Head of Public Service Felix Koskei told the National Development Implementation Committee that maize production had increased from 34 million bags in 2022 to 71 million in 2025. He called for greater investment in irrigation, climate-smart farming, storage facilities and markets to strengthen food security and agricultural resilience.
