Authorities in France are investigating an incident that saw over 100 French supermarkets hit by a cyber attack that caused their fridges and freezers to heat up, spoiling fresh and frozen food estimated to be worth millions of euros. Hackers gained control of the software that regulates the temperatures of connected refrigerators in several major food retailers, forcing some to warm to 50C overnight. Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, instructed France’s national cybersecurity agency to investigate the matter and see whether any other French firms were at risk.
