A Tanzanian actress has publicly apologized after a behind-the-scenes video showing her struggling to deliver an English line during a film shoot went viral, attracting reactions from social media users in Kenya and Tanzania.

The actress was attempting to say, “You know I got homesick,” but repeatedly struggled with the phrase, which came out as “You know I galla homesick”.
The footage, filmed on an outdoor set surrounded by sugarcane, showed members of the production crew helping her deliver the line as the director, Bayo Vantane, encouraged her to try again.
A crew member also translated the sentence into Kiswahili to help her understand what she was expected to say.
Despite several attempts, the actress continued to struggle with the delivery, turning what appeared to be a routine filming session into a widely shared social media moment.

Actress Addresses Online Reactions

Following the circulation of the clip, the actress acknowledged the reactions and admitted that the incident had left her embarrassed.
She also appeared concerned about how the video had reflected on her fellow Tanzanians, particularly as Kenyans joined the online conversation.
“Wakenya wametucheka sana,” she said, a Kiswahili phrase that translates to “Kenyans have laughed at us a lot”.
She subsequently issued a public apology over the incident rather than ignoring the growing attention surrounding the video.
The clip also sparked discussions about language differences between Kenya and Tanzania, with some social media users turning the moment into jokes about English pronunciation.
However, the incident also highlighted the pressure performers can experience while delivering lines on camera, particularly when working in a language in which they may not be entirely comfortable.

English and Kiswahili in Tanzania

Kiswahili remains widely spoken in Tanzania and plays a central role in everyday communication, education and public life.
English is also taught and used in the country, particularly in higher education and professional settings.
However, fluency and confidence in a language can vary from one individual to another, and struggling to pronounce a particular phrase does not necessarily reflect someone's overall ability to communicate in that language.
The actress's experience has therefore become part of a wider online conversation about language, performance and the expectations placed on public figures.
The incident also demonstrates how behind-the-scenes footage can quickly attract attention beyond its original audience, turning an ordinary moment during filming into a subject of public discussion.
