Kenyan radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has disclosed the details surrounding his move to Radio 47 shortly after leaving Milele FM.Speaking during an interview on the Iko Nini Podcast hosted by Mwafreeka, the veteran broadcaster explained that he initially intended to exit radio presentation completely.

Planning a Total Exit from Radio

Mwakideu revealed that when he submitted his resignation at Milele FM, his plan was to return home and focus on personal business ventures. He explained that balancing full-time employment with private enterprise had proven difficult, as employers require total commitment.

"Leaving Milele FM, I was actually going home to do my stuff," Mwakideu said.

However, his plans shifted after his wife urged him to remain open to incoming proposals. She advised him to listen to station managers who began calling immediately after he posted his resignation online.

Rejecting Similar Offers

Following his announcement, several media managers contacted him for contract discussions. Mwakideu attended meetings across Nairobi, including sit-downs at Silver Springs hotel and in Lavington.

Despite these offers, he rejected the proposals because they lacked fresh direction. He noted that the terms presented by those radio stations felt identical to his previous broadcasting roles.

"When Iposted that I’ve exited Milele, I received a lot of calls. There was a lot ofthat struggle in my mind because I had made up my mind, exiting media completely," Mwakideu stated regarding those initial discussions.

Reunited with Former Colleagues

The situation changed when management from Radio 47 requested a meeting.Upon visiting the station, Mwakideu discovered a broadcasting team composed largely of his former co-workers.

Among them was Emmanuel Mwashumbe, his co-host of nearly eight years during their time at Radio Maisha. The station also featured Ali Hassan, presenter Linda Oriaso — who worked with him at Baraka FM — and manager Geoffrey Mung’ou.

Mwakideu explained that creatives thrive best in happy environments. The presence of his former team convinced him that Radio 47 offered the right professional atmosphere.

"I think I'll be happier here," Mwakideu recalled thinking.

The Final Chapter in Radio

Mwakideu confirmed that his move to Radio 47 marks the final chapter of his radio presentation career. His career path began at Baraka FM in Mombasa, before he relocated to Nairobi.

He stated that he will not move to another radio station when his current contract ends.
