Kenyan social media is buzzing after digital content creator  Dem wa Facebook and media personality  Risper Faith spoke openly about how they delivered their children in a video now doing the rounds.

In the video, shared by Nairobi Gossip Club, the pair laughed their way through an unexpectedly candid talk about their births. Dem wa Facebook said she, like Risper Faith, delivered her twins by Caesarean section.

"si uliniambia niende CS", Dem wa Facebook replied to Risper faith.

The admission came up easily as the two women chatted and laughed about the choices they made.

At one point, Risper turned to the people around her and asked a friend if she had given birth the normal way. The friend said she had. Risper responded with a flurry of questions, clearly amused and baffled by the thought.

The clip is full of animated gestures and real laughter, which helps explain why it caught the attention of so many Kenyans online.

Risper said her only reason for choosing a CS was that she did not want it to affect her intimate life or change her body.

What the data shows

Caesarean births have risen sharply in Kenya. The share went from 9 per cent in 2014 to 17 per cent in 2022.

Wealth and education also play a part. About 33 per cent of live births among the wealthiest women were by Caesarean, against 5 per cent among the poorest. The rate rises from 3 per cent among mothers with no education to 34 per cent among those with more than secondary schooling.

Kenyans react to the CS conversation

Not everyone saw the funny side. Many viewers used the comments section to share their own views, and some offered impromptu biology lessons.

@benniexperience argued the reverse was true. “Should be the opposite 😂😂😂 biologically the V opens up to be ready for delivery by itself, after pushing the baby out, it contracts imagine if you don’t push you are leaving it open, science kidogo aki. 😁”

@Sharon questioned the reasoning: “For a man? You all cannot be serious.”

@Jenny was less amused. “I am not amused by this conversation. But let us educate people because this is ignorance.”

nduta._ agreed that education was needed: “People need to be educated lol.”
