President William Ruto has defended the 1.5 percent housing levy deducted from formal employees to fund the construction of affordable housing units. Ruto said the levy is supporting job opportunities for 1.1 million workers involved in the construction of the houses. He also criticised opposition leaders questioning the affordable housing programme, saying the project is aimed at improving living conditions for Kenyans living in informal settlements.
