Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has stepped down as the leader of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, effective immediately. In a letter dated October 5, 2026, Kenyatta described the decision as part of the continued renewal of democratic institutions, stressing that it does not mark a departure from the coalition’s shared political journey. He reaffirmed his commitment to remain part of the Azimio family and offer counsel whenever called upon. The Ukombozi Alliance, through its party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has thanked Kenyatta for his leadership, counsel and support to the coalition.
