Poverty, conflict, climate change, irregular migration, unethical recruitment and misuse of technology are increasingly driving modern slavery and exploitation. Speaking while opening the 2026 Freedom from Slavery Global Forum in Nairobi, Assistant Labour Commissioner for Child Labour Artlibert Makori said Kenya is strengthening its response through Bilateral Labour Agreements and cooperation with destination countries. The measures seek to improve recruitment procedures, protect wages and contracts, expand grievance mechanisms and strengthen safeguards against trafficking and forced labour.
