The family of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has announced that there will be no viewing of his body or that of his wife, Lucy Muteke, during their funeral.

Family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo confirmed the decision as relatives and friends gathered to mourn the couple at Wicknell’s Gletwin residence in Harare on Friday, October 2.
According to Herbert, the condition of the bodies following the helicopter crash made it impossible for the family to hold the usual body-viewing ceremony.
“The family has decided that there will be no viewing of the bodies,” Herbert said.
The announcement comes as the family continues to make funeral arrangements for the couple, who died in a helicopter crash in Marondera on Wednesday, September 30.

Forensic identification underway

The crash claimed the lives of all those on board the helicopter, including Wicknell, Lucy, their aide Senelisiwe Magagula, and pilots Captain Calvin Tafirei Soda and Captain Courage Matavirwa.
Forensic experts have been working to formally identify the remains before the families can proceed with the final burial arrangements.
Zimbabwean state broadcaster ZBC reported that DNA testing and forensic examinations were underway, with the process expected to determine the next stage of the funeral proceedings.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are also still under investigation.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe said preliminary observations showed that the helicopter hit the ground before fuel spilled and caught fire. Still, authorities have not established what caused the aircraft to crash.

Family gathers to mourn.

Mourners have continued arriving at Wicknell’s Gletwin residence as relatives, friends and associates pay their respects to the businessman and his wife.
Wicknell was known across Zimbabwe and beyond for his lavish lifestyle and high-profile social media presence, where he frequently showcased luxury cars, cash gifts and his interactions with prominent figures.
His death attracted attention across Africa, particularly because of his publicised relationships with several influential personalities, including Kenyan President William Ruto.
As the family waits for the forensic process to be completed, details of the couple’s final burial arrangements are expected to be announced later.
The family has asked mourners to continue giving them space and support as they prepare to lay Wicknell and Lucy to rest.
