Bussiness women cum politician Florence Akinyi, also known as Mama Daughter, leads residents of Eldoret during a candle-lighting to remember Raila Odinga
Hundreds of people turned up in Eldoret for a candle-lighting event to honour former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the country begins “Mwezi wa Baba”.

The candle-lighting event was held along Oginga Odinga Street, with similar events taking place in other parts of the country.

Residents, including ODM supporters and local politicians, attended the event.

Businesswoman-turned-politician Florence Akinyi, popularly known as ‘Mama Daughter’, led the candle-lighting ceremony and urged residents to emulate Raila’s commitment to a peaceful Kenya at all times.

She said that as the country heads to next year’s polls, Kenyans must ensure the country remains peaceful and united.

“Baba always said and believed Kenya was bigger than all of us. As we remember him, let’s all do what is possible to love our country and keep it peaceful,” said Akinyi.

Akinyi, who is vying for the Langas MCA seat through ODM, urged all aspirants to promote peace and unity among Kenyans.

Politician Kipkorir Menjo, who was a close ally of Odinga in the region, said the former Prime Minister had left a strong legacy and would always be remembered by Kenyans.

Menjo urged current leaders to emulate Odinga and value the country more than themselves.

“He lived a life full of positive values like integrity and principled leadership. He will always remain in the hearts of Kenyans,” said Menjo.Businesswoman cum politician Florence Akinyi, also known as Mama Daughter, leads residents of Eldoret during candle lighting to remember Raila Odinga
