Kenyan media personality Lynn Ngugi has sparked widespread discussion online after questioning the circumstances surrounding controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

Her comments follow news reports that the 44-year-old tycoon died in a helicopter crash in Marondera Rural on 30 September 2026.

The Flamboyant Businessman

Chivayo, widely known as "Sir Wicknell", built a reputation through major government tenders in Zimbabwe. His company, Intratrek Zimbabwe, notably secured the controversial $200 million Gwanda Solar Project.

He gained continent-wide attention for extravagant public giving. Media estimates indicated he spent over $9.3 million in a single 12-month period on luxury vehicles—including Mercedes-Benzes and Range Rovers—and cash handouts for musicians, clergy, and political figures.

Questions Over Proximity to Power

Following reports of the fatal crash, Ngugi published a public social media statement questioning the official narrative and examining his sudden rise.

Ngugi focused on Chivayo's frequent public statements and his close relationships with high-ranking political leaders. She noted that his outspoken nature alongside elite connections could have altered his standing among powerful associates.

“What if Wicknell Chivayo faked his death or was taken out? This man talked A LOT and for someone with this much proximity to power and such a loose mouth, maybe at some point he started becoming a liability,” Lynn Ngugi stated.

Documentation as Insurance

Ngugi also highlighted Chivayo's habit of posting photographs and records of his meetings with African heads of state. In her commentary, she suggested that this public documentation served a tactical purpose, functioning as a form of personal protection. She added the phrase "(Africa’s Epstein)" while describing how these records prevented associates from distancing themselves.

“Even the way he documented his meetings with presidents and "powerful" people felt almost like insurance to me. Like, I will not be your secret. If I'm going down, nobody gets to suddenly pretend they don't know me or have never dealt with me (Africa's Epstein).”

Turning to his financial affairs , she questioned how such immense wealth was accumulated so quickly.

"How do you suddenly become THAT rich, THAT connected and start giving away cars and millions like it’s nothing?"

She further pressed the issue regarding his source of funds.

"Where was all this money coming from?"

A Personal Theory

Ngugi concluded her post by clarifying that her remarks were not proven facts, but rather her own unverified observations regarding the unfolding story.

"I don’t know, something is just not adding up for me... Just a theory guys"
